Communication, on a local and international level, is becoming more important in every area of life. Our twinning partnership is no exception – in fact, it is based on the international links that have been forged over many years.

On this page you will find links to organisations connected to our twinning, together with information about websites of more general interest.

The descriptions appear only in the language of the country in question.

Epping and District

Epping Town Council

Epping Town Council has local government responsibility for the town of Epping. Its base is at Epping Hall in St John’s Road, CM16 5JU. The council liaises with the two other tiers of local government, Epping Forest District Council and Essex County Council, in matters relating to the town. In 2019 the council was awarded Quality Gold Status for best practice in local government. Their website has a wealth of information about the town and its history, as well as details of the council, local services and events. There is also an online version of the council’s quarterly print magazine, Talk About Epping.

Other local organisations with twinning connections

Epping Forest Band

Epping Forest Band and their counterpart in Eppingen were the prime movers in founding our twinning partnership – you can read more about this in the ‘How We Began’ section of our ‘What We Do’ page. Both bands have maintained their involvement – for example, as well as performing at significant events in the UK, Epping Forest Band regularly travels to Germany to perform at Eppingen’s biennial Altstadtfest (Old Town Festival). Their website includes the history of the band, photos and forthcoming performances.

Epping Tennis Club

This club formed links with the Tennisclub Eppingen early in our partnership. The Epping Tennis Club website has details of membership, venues and events.

Rotarians

Eppingen does not have its own Rotary Club; Sinsheim, about 13 miles (20 km) away, is the nearest town which does. In 1989 Erich Pretz, the then Mayor of Eppingen who was also a Sinsheim Rotarian, initiated an independent twinning arrangement between that organisation and Rotarians in the Epping area. In October that year the Sinsheim Rotarians made their first visit to their UK counterparts, and the links with Epping Rotary Club and Epping Forest Rotary Club have continued to thrive since then. See, for example, the 35th anniversary visit to the UK (May 2025) in our Events UK page.

St John’s Church, Epping

The Church of St John the Baptist is the Anglican parish church for the town. It was at St John’s that the original town twinning document was signed in 1981. The church organises a Christmas Tree Festival every December in which the Epping twinning association participates as one of many local organisations decorating their own tree. The ‘twinners’, of course, always choose a German theme.
